Current Role Working With The Athletic Population
Working side by side in my affiliation with the coaches at Murder of Crows Barbell, I have helped rehabilitate their athletes in preparation for Nationals, as well as some of their recreational lifters. I am currently based out of Work Train Fight, a Boxing/Muay Thai gym, where I work to rehabilitate their athletes as well as my own private clients. I assisted a coach to have his boxers qualify for Ring Masters (formerly the Golden Gloves) and helped a boxer recover from a shoulder injury during nationals. She went on to rank 4th in USA Boxing's Olympic Trials, in 2019.
Professional Philosophy
I view every athlete as an individual with different goals and stressors that apply to their life and competitive goals. I think it is key to listen to your client, gather what matters most to them, and assess what their greatest challenges are. My clients understand that being more active in their recovery will benefit them most. My rehabilitation and programming for my Boxing/Muay Thai clients vs. Powerlifting clients vary depending on the demands of the sport and what season they are in but they all have a common underlying strength component. I always believe that there are ways to still modify lifts and perform safely while recovering.
Athletic Background
I have been in sports since childhood. In High School I was co-captain for Volleyball, Basketball, and Softball teams both Sophomore (JV) and Senior year (Varsity). I was the only student to graduate having played all seasons all 4 years. Most recently, in 2014 I found Powerlifting and never looked back. I have competed and placed in 4 meets and last year qualified for Nationals as an 84kg M1 athlete having been coached by the Murder of Crows Barbell gym. I still do Muay Thai/Boxing 1-2/ week during the off-season.
Academic Background and Professional Training
I attended CUNY at Hunter College for undergraduate preparation, where I majored in Psychology. I knew that the mental aspect was integral to recovering from injury and the perception of pain. For Graduate school, I was accepted to Long Island University in Brooklyn and I graduated with my Masters in Physical Therapy and am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. I am also certified in Kinstretch®, am an FRC® Mobility Specialist, and am actively working towards obtaining my Doctorate.
