Current Role Working With The Athletic Population
My current involvement with athletes includes athletic venue coverage as a Certified Athletic Trainer, as well as treating athletes of all levels in the clinic from the surrounding area. As a dual credentialed Physical Therapist and Athletic Trainer, I have been able to provide athletic venue coverage within the community, including the USA Hockey Pacific District Tier 1 Tournament, and have been one of two therapists providing evidence based concussion treatment and exertion therapy in the clinic.
I have a passion for empowering athletes/patients to feel in control of their bodies and their rehabilitation. Since graduating PT school I have become more and more fierce about providing narratives that encourage and internal locus of control and limit dependence on passive treatment. I am particularly enthusiastic about treating the young female athlete and introducing them to strength training, especially those involved in the performing arts who otherwise do not get any exposure to weight training throughout their athletic development. At the end of the day, my main goal is to help athletes feel confident in their bodies and their return to sport and not inhibited by their pain and/or injury.
I was involved in swimming from elementary school through high school and competed for both school and club teams. In addition, I was involved in the performing arts and gained experience with multiple forms of dance, including ballet, hip hop, contemporary, modern, and jazz. Since graduating college I have continued my involvement in the performing arts realm through aerial arts, which I continue to participate in currently. I am also an avid hiker, backpacker, and prefer to follow more powerlifting styles of training in the gym.
Academic Background and Professional Training
I received a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Chapman University in 2011. Afterwards I pursued a Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of Pittsburgh. During my time at Pittsburgh, I gained 12 months of experience at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex working full time with clinicians who helped develop the hip Clinical Practice Guidelines and leading concussion exertion therapy research. Furthermore, I had the incredible opportunity of working with youth to professional level dancers from Point Park University and Pittsburgh Ballet Theater.
