Current Role Working With The Athletic Population
I serve as a physical therapist and coach for my gym, CrossFit Austin. I treat and train primarily CrossFit athletes and weightlifters at this location. My main gig is with Reach Outcomes. We are a start-up sports rehabilitation and performance company that strives to provide holistic care to the athlete. Our caseload is 100% athletes. Currently, we are working with professional beach volleyball athletes, special operation tactical athletes, and endurance runners. We will seek to broaden our caseload of athletes as we approach the grand opening of our 7,000 sq. ft. facility in Sept 2020.
Professional Philosophy
Previously as a student member of CA, I have had the privilege of learning from Dr. Henoch, Dr. Derek Miles, etc. and have been influenced greatly by their critical thinking and research appraisal skills. My clinical practice has also been influenced gratefully by the quotes and teachings of Greg Lehman. Especially when working with athletes, I believe the mindsets of "calm shit down/build shit back up" and "helping athletes build a bigger cup" rather than "fixing them" provides them with the resilience to take an active role in their rehab. I believe loading, through a mixture of gravity, resistance, graded motor imagery, etc. (dependent on the case) leads to overall better physical and psychological adaptations than passive treatments alone. "Passive treatments get passive results" is another cheesy quote that I base much of my clinical practice on.
Athletic Background
I have been training in the sports of CrossFit and Weightlifting for four years at CrossFit Austin, prior to that I'd been focused on functional bodybuilding. My current athletic status involves a focus on gymnastics and aerobic capacity development programmed by my OPEX coach & CA provider, Dr. Whitney Welsch. My current athletic goals are to finish rehabilitating a shoulder injury, improve my gymnastics foundations, and compete in a local CrossFit competition.
Academic Background and Professional Training
I received a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology (BS) from LSU in May 2013, from there I attended the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences (Austin) for graduate school. I graduated from USAHS in 2018 with a Doctorate of Physical Therapy. During PT school I obtained a CrossFit level one training certificate and a USAW sports performance level one certificate. Post-professional education includes a certificate in manual therapy specialization from Evidence In Motion (2020).
